Resumen: REFLECTIVE INQUIRY HAS NOWADAYS BECOME AN ESSENTIAL SKILL FOR EDUCATORS, TUTORS, AND PROSPECTIVE TEACHERS. AN EDUCATOR’S CONCERN INSIDE THE CLASS INCLUDES OBSERVING THEIR CLASSROOM REALITY, IDENTIFYING ISSUES, PROPOSING SOLUTIONS, AND REFLECTING ON THE LESSONS. THEREFORE, RESEARCH TRAINING NEEDS TO BECOME AN ESSENTIAL PART OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS’ ACADEMIC LIFE, NOT ONLY FROM A THEORETICAL VIEWPOINT BUT AS A REFLECTIVE APPROACH, TOO. IN THEIR BOOK, DIKILITAŞ AND BOSTANCIOĞLU HIGHLIGHT THE IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH TRAINING AND INQUIRY SKILLS AS INVALUABLE KNOWLEDGE FOR PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS. CURRENTLY, THERE IS A GROWING NUMBER OF PUBLICATIONS THAT CONTAIN REPORTS ON ACTION RESEARCH IN ELT, SUCH AS BULLOCK AND SMITH (2015), MACKAY, BIRELLO, AND XERRI (2018) AND BANEGAS ET AL. (2020). MOST OF THESE WERE PRODUCED BY IN-SERVICE TEACHERS, BUT THERE IS A LACK OF SYSTEMATICALLY LAID OUT HANDBOOKS THAT FOCUS ON TRAINING PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS IN RESEARCH SKILLS OR PROVIDE ACTIVITIES TO HELP THEM DEVELOP THESE SKILLS. THIS VOLUME COMES AS A RESPONSE TO THE NEED THAT PROSPECTIVE LANGUAGE TEACHERS HAVE FOR LEARNING INDUCTIVE REFLECTION AND THE BASICS OF RESEARCH.

Resumen: N FOREIGN LANGUAGE LEARNING CONTEXTS, VOCABULARY ACQUISITION IS SOMETIMES PERCEIVED AS A SOLITARY ACTIVITY WITH WORD LISTS AND FLASH CARDS FOR MEMORIZATION. HOWEVER, IT IS POSSIBLE TO CREATE VOCABULARY LEARNING TASKS THAT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT BOTH INDIVIDUAL AND COOPERATIVE EFFORTS IN A COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT THAT PROMOTES ENGAGEMENT AND MOTIVATION. THE PAPER PROVIDES AN ACCOUNT OF THE VOCABULARY LEARNING AND TEAMWORK STRATEGIES EMPLOYED BY A GROUP OF ECUADORIAN TEACHERS AND STUDENTS WHO TOOK PART IN AN INTERNATIONAL ONLINE VOCABULARY TOURNAMENT UNDER THE UNPRECEDENTED CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE COVID-19 LOCKDOWN IN 2020. THE DATA ANALYZED INCLUDE REFLECTIVE VOCABULARY JOURNALS AND THE WHATSAPP MESSAGES EXCHANGED. THE AUTHORS CONCLUDE THAT IN ADDITION TO THE DISCOVERY AND CONSOLIDATION STRATEGIES FOR VOCABULARY LEARNING, THE TEAM’S COOPERATIVE INTERACTIONS COMBINED WITH A HIGH LEVEL OF SOCIAL MOTIVATION HAVE SIGNIFICANTLY CONTRIBUTED TO THEIR SUCCESS.

Resumen: THIS ARTICLE INTENDS TO SHOW HOW CONTENTS OF COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION CAN BE INCLUDED BOTH IN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY LEVEL EFL LESSONS THROUGH THE USE OF DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGICAL RESOURCES AND REMOTE TEACHING PROPOSALS. THE PASSING OF NATIONAL LAW 26,150 (2006) CREATED A NATIONAL PROGRAM ON COMPREHENSIVE SEXUALITY EDUCATION (CSE) WHICH ENFORCES THE INCLUSION OF PERSPECTIVES, CONTENTS AND DISCURSIVE PRACTICES AROUND CSE IN ALL AREAS OF THE CURRICULUM—EFL INCLUDED—AND AT ALL LEVELS OF THE EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM. DURING THESE TIMES OF PANDEMIC AND EMERGENCY REMOTE TEACHING, THE INCLUSION OF CSE IN OUR LESSONS CONTINUES TO BE OF PARAMOUNT IMPORTANCE. AS OUR BELIEFS ABOUT GRAMMAR INSTRUCTION ARE IN LINE WITH THE PRINCIPLES PRESENTED IN THE BOOK, NAMELY, THAT THE CREATIVE USE OF LANGUAGE MAKES THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE NOT ONLY MORE ENGAGING AND ENJOYABLE, BUT ALSO ACTIVATES PARTS OF LINGUISTIC PROFICIENCY THAT TRADITIONAL APPROACHES DO NOT REACH.

Resumen:

El proyecto, “Elaboración de un diccionario para estudiantes de inglés como Lengua Extranjera (EFL): El proceso de contextualización de palabras para uso académico en la formación de profesores”, es una respuesta a la necesidad creciente de los estudiantes y profesores en programas de enseñanza de inglés en instituciones terciarias del Ecuador que se enfrentan al reto de alcanzar el nivel de competencia en inglés requerido para los estudiantes, mientras aprenden vocabulario académico. Por vocabulario académico se entiende términos para referirse a elementos que son razonablemente frecuentes en una amplia gama de géneros, pero son relativamente poco comunes en otros tipos de textos (Coxhead & Nation, 2001). Esto permite desarrollar ensayos, propuestas, resúmenes, entre otros (Paltridge, 2004); y estos ámbitos están estrechamente relacionadas con la profesión docente. Por lo general, los estudiantes se esfuerzan por adquirir las cuatro habilidades: leer, escuchar, escribir y hablar, a la vez que amplían su vocabulario académico. 

Mientras se preparan para convertirse en futuros profesores de inglés, el vocabulario académico es una herramienta necesaria para comunicarse de forma oral y escrita; así como para expresarse en diversas actividades de sus asignaturas profesionales, como métodos de enseñanza, investigación y cursos relacionados con pedagogía.
